2011 Red Carpet Golden Globe Predictions

By Gold Derby News Desk

Jan 15 2011 | 07:30 am

The Golden Globes will be doled out this Sunday. We assembled expert predictions from two dozen top awards pundits. They forecast all the races and expect a fierce battle between “The King’s Speech” and “The Social Network” for Best Drama Picture. However, they think three of the four top acting races are virtual locks as is Best Director.

Our notable panel includes: Thelma Adams (Us Weekly, Thelmadams.com), Tim Appelo (Hollywood Reporter), Lane Brown (New York Vulture), Erik Davis (Cinematical), Scott Feinberg (ScottFeinberg.com) Pete Hammond (Deadline Hollywood), Joseph Kapsch (Zap2It), Dave Karger (Entertainment Weekly), Tariq Khan (Fox News), Peter Knegt (Indie Wire), Guy Lodge (In Contention), Michael Musto (Village Voice), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby, The Envelope), Steve Pond (The Odds, The Wrap), Nathaniel Rogers (Film Experience), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), Keith Simanton (IMDB), Sasha Stone (AwardsDaily), Kris Tapley (In Contention), Anne Thompson (Indiewire), Bob Tourtellotte (Reuters), Chuck Walton (Fandango), Jeff Wells (Hollywood-Elsewhere), Susan Wloszczyna (USA Today).

Movie Review: Rabbit Hole

December 24, 2010 By Thelma Leave a Comment

Us Rating: **

After their only son is killed in a car accident, Becca (Nicole Kidman) and Howie (Aaron Eckhart) hit an emotional iceberg in this oppressively bleak drama. A taut-faced Kidman courts Oscar with her obvious arc: grief, the slow burn of guilt, the angry pop and, finally, redemption. Eckhart’s more accessible character flirts and gets high with a fellow bereaved parent (a strong Sandra Oh) in scenes that come as a relief. Actors love these meaty roles; viewers, less so.

Oscar Race: Nicole Kidman falls down Rabbit Hole

November 12, 2010 By Thelma Leave a Comment

● Us Weekly film critic Thelma Adams sends us this updated Oscar assessment: “Now that I’ve seen ‘Rabbit Hole,’ sorry, Nicole Kidman. You will not be nominated for that downward-spiral bummer. This one’s disappearing down the proverbial rabbit hole. So, who in her place? My guess is Lesley Manville (‘Another Year’) on the rise. There will be more movement on the best supporting actress race, but best actress is solidifying. On the open question Annette Bening or Natalie Portman, it’s still too close to call. The real jockeying from here on out will be in the competitive best supporting actress race.”

Our first team of 11 experts from various media and our 11 Gold Derby editors disagree strongly about who is ahead in the Best Actress race. Five of the experts have Annette Bening (“The Kids Are All Right”) in the first position while five feel Natalie Portman (“Black Swan”) will prevail.

TEAM BENING:
Pete Hammond (Deadline Hollywood), Dave Karger (Entertainment Weekly), Steve Pond (The Wrap), Sasha Stone (Awards Daily), Bob Tourtellotte (Reuters)

TEAM PORTMAN
Thelma Adams (Us Weekly, Thelmadams.com), Lane Brown (Vulture), Erik Davis (Cinematical), Scott Feinberg (ScottFeinberg.com), Jeff Wells (Hollywood-Elsewhere)

TEAM JENNIFER LAWRENCE
Guy Lodge (InContention)

GOLD DERBY RACETRACK ODDS: EXPERTS
1.) Bening – 8/3
2.) Portman – 17/10

Personally, I choose Bening along with two other Gold Derby editors, but most of  our site cohorts disagree. Eight say Portman.

GOLD DERBY RACETRACK ODDS: EDITORS
